Network Manager

The Network Manager’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Manager will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. Will also serve as one of the Information Technology Department’s key managers with responsibility for identifying, developing and implementing department and company-wide strategic business objective initiatives. Will provide the highest level of support for a large and a complex 24x7x365 day a year retail operation.


  •  Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, multi-function printers and UPS’s.
  •  Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPS’s, and other hardware.
  •  Participate in the design, configuration and support of all voice and data circuits to ensure best operation, high availability and redundancy.
  •  Ensure all POS network platforms properly function and have fail-over redundant operations.
  •  Maintain network management and security software systems to ensure proper support of company-wide networks and compliance requirements.
  •  Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records for all company computer equipment.
  •  Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
  •  Assist in the planning and management of security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  •  Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain current of developments in the network industry.
  •  Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  •  Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure all voice, data and video network products and services.
  •  Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  •  Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  •      Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  •  Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, video, telephony equipment, multi-function printing devices, and other network appliances.
  •  Manage servers, including database, e-mail, print and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  •  Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  •  Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports to management.
  •  Participate in managing all network security appliances and solutions.
  •  Assist in performing server and security audits, and system backups and recovery.
  •  Perform file system and database configuration and management.
  •  Develop and maintain training materials and systems documentation for educating end users and new IT staff.
  •  Administer all network equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  •  Perform network design and capacity planning.
  •  Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  •  Establish service level agreements with end users.
  •  Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  •  Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  •  Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  •  Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  •  Keep current with emerging security alerts and issues.
  •  Provide on-call security support to end-users.
  •  Review and deploy new software application service packs, hot fixes, system updates, and vendor-supplied patches in accordance with industry best practices.
  •  Perform server and security audits.
  •  Perform system backups and recovery.
  •  Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

Position Requirements

  •  College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 10 year’s equivalent work experience.
  •  MCSE Certification is a plus.
  •  Valid drivers license.
  •      Working technical knowledge of PC and Server operating systems, including Exchange, Windows Server, Windows Desktop, IBM Notes and AS/400 (helpful, not required).
  •  Extensive application support experience with Active Directory, VDI and Storage Virtualization, Microsoft Exchange, Antivirus Enterprise Solutions, IBM Notes and Microsoft Office .
  •  Working technical knowledge of current network infrastructure hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP and DHCP.
  •  Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  •  Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  •  Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  •  Clear understanding of PCI DSS compliance requirements and associated industry standard practices.
  •  Strong written and oral communication skills.

Work Conditions

  •  On-call availability as needed.
  •  Sitting for extended periods of time.
  •  Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  •  Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  •  Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  •  Travel may be required for off-site installations and configuration.
